No, you make no money from Kiva loans. And if you add the voluntary small donation to help run the non-profit Kiva office, you don’t get that back – that part is a donation. In addition, some loans are labeled on their full description page as having currency risk which means you may get back less than the full $25 you applied to the loan.
But I love Kiva. I do not have enough money to help many charities, so Kiva is a way to mostly recycle the same money to help so many people. I do add the optional donation and sometimes choose a loan with currency risk, but for most loans I get my full $25 back. And I love that I can pick who I am helping.
