make money writing children's books
How much money do writers make?

I’m only 13 years old, but I want to have a career in writing when I grow up. Some of the writing jobs I thought up were the following

*Journalist

*Magazine writer

*Children’s books

*Novels

*Nonfiction

*Screenwriting/ TV shows/ plays

My question is, do any of them make good money? What would I have to major in to get a career there? Is 13 too young to decide yet?

With the exception of journalists and screenwriters, the chances of you having a career in any of these are about zero.

The average earnings of a published novelist in the UK, from writing, are about 1/4 of the national average wage. Bear in mind that that’s the top 1% of all people who write novels, 99% of whom earn nothing.

If you want to write, then write – start now so you’ve got a decent length of time to practice. If it turns into a career, then wonderful. But you really need to plan on the basis that it won’t. Most writers have a completely separate career and write in their spare time.
