Gmail is safe. People using Gmail are unsafe. The same could be said for Yahoo and a variety of other accounts.
Here is the thing about passwords. They have to be pretty generic for anyone to guess them or they have a password from a keylogger/Trojan horse type program. This is generally how they steal Runescape passwords.
Also don’t be so insulting to hackers. Most of the ones attacking passwords are at best script kiddies. They wouldn’t know how to do this stuff without a program and in some cases exact instructions on how to run it. They are in turn probably infected with some sort of Trojan horse program as well.
Run a good anti-virus program and regularly do scans of the whole computer.
Set strong passwords that at least appear to be random if not totally random characters.
Use at least 10 characters of upper and lower case, numbers and punctuation.
Avoid bots, pirate sites, porn, and other dangerous computer activity.
Your computer is as safe as your ability to make and keep it safe.
